In this session, we discussed Ambreia’s article, How Martyr Based Motherhood Harms Black Mothers and Our Communities and examined the expectations, struggles, and generational traumas that shape the experiences of Black women as they navigate the complex landscape of motherhood.
We will explored:
The societal expectations and pressures imposed on Black mothers, often leading to a martyr-based approach to parenting.
The intersectionality of race, gender, and societal norms that contribute to these challenges.
Strategies and alternative perspectives towards redefining motherhood and fostering self-care and individuality within the context of Black mothering.
