Kuumba Fest
A Day of Creativity and Connection
In honor of Kuumba, the 6th day of Kwanzaa, which means creativity, I’m hosting an intimate day of crafting and baking for Lyric’s favorite people. On Friday, December 29th please join us at 2pm in our home. Check out last year’s Kuumba Fest here.
Baking
We have a family cookie recipe that has been in the family for four generations. These cookies have been made annually, since my moms childhood, and we shared it with last year’s guests and would love to do it again. Check out Lyric in action here. You can take home as much or as little as you’d like. I’ll provide canisters. If you have any objection to sugary treats, there will still be plenty for you to do.
Crafting
After taking a permaculture class this year, I’ve been trying to keep sustainability in mind for everything, including my crafts, We’ll have a number of craft options for both adults and kids this year primarily made from recycled materials. I’d appreciate if you could bring us your trash! See the list below. On the final day of Kwanzaa, January 1st, gifts are offered. Handmade or cultural gifts are preferred. Whether or not you celebrate Kwanzaa, I think handmade gifts are so precious. Hopefully you will leave with a few gifts for family and friends or keepsakes for yourself. See the list of recycled goods that you can donate below.
Recycled goods to bring - The more the merrier. I will make use of it beyond this day.
Tin cans from beans, sauce, etc
1-2 liter soda bottles
Aluminum cans from soda or beer
Milk / juice cartons
bottle and jar tops tops (any kind)
Toilet paper or paper towel rolls
peanut canisters
Potluck
I’m planning to order pizza because the kitchen will be busy with baking. But please feel free to bring food, fruit, snacks, or drinks to share for both adults and kids.
Last but not least
Dress for mess or have a change of clothes.
They may not need it, but I like to be prepared. If you have any group games that children would enjoy playing, please bring it. I have Bingo.
If you think you can make it, if you haven’t already, let me know by Tuesday, December 26th (917) 251-5185. Reach out if you have any questions!
